I have to say I agree with your dad. You are much better off on your own. My friend and I have talked about missions quite a bit since I want to do medical missions. Her and her husband did a lot of missions before settling here and they never went through FMD. They are both PKs so they aren't renegades or anything. Their recommendation was to do it without FMD. You don't need FMD to give authority or legitimacy to what you are doing.

They gave me the option in my letter to do it on my own without their insurance and I'm taking it. I have the authority's permission to do it.

I didn't consider getting a scholarship for Gateway and if I don't get one, it's not the end of the world. Is it worth me paying somewhere around $1000-2000 more than I have to, just so that I can get a scholarship which will most likely be less than that. Way less than that.

My point of reference for AIM trips has been on two of them and she did her own finances both times. She recommended it. I think it's a great plan.

And underage drinking may also cause your insurance cost to rise. Check with your dad on that one though.

In all seriousness, a pro of going through FMD does give a certain authority to what you are doing. Also, have you considered applying for an SFC scholarship for Gateway? If so, have you considered what going outside of FMD regulatory blah blah blah may do to your chances of receiving such a scholarship? I'm not the boss of you, but sometimes going through "the channels" does give you more options later.

Just a thought or three.
